On my union blog

Many of you know I am a union steward and a long-time union activist. Covering union activity is not the mission of the family blog you are reading here. But, since we live in unprecedented times, and many of the readers of this blog work at, or are former students at, SJSU, I just thought I would mention, my SJSU union blog is here!

Recent topics on my union blog include:
  • Student Reports on SJSU Layoff
  • Today is the day
  • Rally on Thursday info!
  • Beware of Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD)
  • Reasons for concern over Google
  • Union’s table by SJSU Student Union
  • How to file a discrimination complaint
  • About the layoff procedure…
NOTE –> These are my own personal opinions, views, information and perspectives regarding the labor movement in general and our local union, Chapter 307 of CSUEU, the California State University Employees Union at SJSU, San Jose State University, San Jose, California. This in NOT meant to represent the official union position on this matter.

Ride with Jeff to Croy

Today I went on a bike ride with middle son Jeff from home to Croy and back. On the way back we stopped and got burritos and beer. It was a fun ride! It was also fun hanging out with him having a beer and eating burritos after the ride. A good day.

19 years ago today

Nineteen years ago today was the car accident that took the life of my first wife and put two of our sons in the hospital. Life can change so fast and some things you never forget. In this photo, taken in 1979, Candy is in Spartan City with baby Jeff. Spartan City was the name of what was once family housing at San Jose State.

You can't take anything for granted. Not a thing!

Memorial for fallen cyclists

I took a break from my work this afternoon to take a bike ride down to Mt. Eden/Pierce. It was a great day for a ride. Along the way I passed the memorial to 30-year-old Kristy Gough of San Leandro and 29-year-old Matt Peterson of San Francisco who were killed by a deputy just over two years ago. It was the first time I have beeen by the memorial.

When I stopped at the picnic area at Steven's Canyon Road there was a wild turkey and two fawn deer there grazing away. They watched as I rode my bike by them. Then, they went back to what they were doing. Don't mind me, carry on!
